"Beyond Beliefs - One Family's Incredible Story"
Sohail spent six years researching the lives of his parents and grandparents, culminating in his epic memoir, ‘Beyond Beliefs’.
He will talk about his amazing journey of discovery, that revealed the extraordinary story of his German Jewish mother and Indian Muslim father, and how their own and their parents’ lives were impacted by momentous events of the 20th century - most notably the Partition of India and the Holocaust.
This is a tale that spans continents and cultures, exposing the horrific consequences of war and extremism, and the struggles faced by refugees and immigrants; but it is also testament to how love and indomitable human spirit can overcome tragedy and adversity.

Sohail Husain was born in London in 1951. His parents scraped a living working the city's famous street markets. After leaving school, he studied geography at the University of Nottingham and was awarded a PhD there in 1976. Subsequently, he enjoyed a varied career that included 12 years as a university lecturer, 15 years with an NGO dedicated to creating safer communities and 12 years as an adviser on UN programmes to prevent violence against women and girls. Following retirement, he embarked on the research into his family’s history that led to many amazing discoveries and ultimately to publication of his memoir.
Sohail has two daughters and five grandchildren, and has lived with his wife, Caroline, in south Hampshire for 50 years.
